The VMAs are back, and its star-studded lineup of performers has me tuned 👏 in 👏. Some of the brightest stars who took the stage are Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, who debuted their new single “Bongos” at the iconic awards show. Of course, the reigning rap legends pulled up in coordinating couture looks to put on a 🔥🔥🔥 performance.
Cardi and Meg both dazzled in blue stage outfits, and let’s be real: Did we ever doubt that these ladies would deliver in the fashion department? I mean, the proof is in the pics:
“Bongos” dropped ahead of the VMAs on September 8, marking Cardi and Meg’s first collab since their record-breaking track “WAP.” The 2020 single made history as the first female rap collaboration to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent four weeks at the top of the charts, so it’s no wonder that the duo is back at it again with “Bongos.”
As for the newness from the rappers, their vivid and epic music video for the track cost $2 million to produce (!!!). So when Cardi and Meg say, “Bitch, I look like money, you could print my face on a dollar,” they truly mean it. 🤑
In an interview for Yee’s Way Up show, Cardi broke down how she dropped millions on the video and how she and Megan wanted to keep everything under wraps. Cardi explained that she originally wanted to shoot outside of the United States but decided to film in Malibu because the weather during wasn’t complying.
“Malibu always has paparazzi and everything, so we hired about 20 guards, 15 guards just guarding the whole area,” Cardi said, adding that they installed geofences that issue alerts when phones are in the surrounding areas. Because Cardi and Meg didn’t want the single to be leaked ahead of its release, they used in-ears while shooting instead of playing the song out loud.
“This type of stuff costs a lot of money for the videos and rehearsals every day—it costs a lot of money. It’s a lot of work,” Cardi finished.
